South Coastal Counties Legal Services, Inc. (SCCLS) is a non-profit corporation which provides free civil legal services to low-income and elderly residents of our communities. Our main offices and outreach locations serve clients in Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Nantucket, and Plymouth Counties, and the towns of Avon and Stoughton. Our mission is to achieve equal justice for the poor and disadvantaged through community based legal advocacy. SCCLS provides free civil legal services in the areas of housing law, family law, government benefits including social security disability, elder law, education law, and consumer law. SCCLS has law offices in Fall River and Hyannis. The Justice Center of South East Massachusetts, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary, is located in Brockton. 2015-2016 Recruitment: SCCLS has three AmeriCorps placements for the service year beginning in September 2015. Pro Bono Coordination, SCCLS, Fall River -In conjunction with the SCCLS PAI Coordinator, member will assist with the Private Attorney Involvement Project (PAI), recruiting private attorneys for pro bono work. Member will organize free workshops, lectures, and trainings for attorneys, who will, in return, take on at least one pro bono case. Additionally, the member will assist the Coordinator to recruit attorneys through mailings and other enrollment methods. In this role member will assist with the organization and facilitation of monthly Pro Se Family Law Workshops, which provide legal assistance by pro bono attorney volunteers and SCCLS staff attorneys to self-represented family law litigants concerning the preparation of court documents and advice regarding court proceedings. He/she will also assist with the organization and facilitation of monthly Consumer Debt Clinics informational presentations providing legal advice by pro bono attorneys to clients seeking debt relief.
