McKesson is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as our Chief Counsel, Global Impact Organization, Sustainability & ESG, in a role that would work closely with our Global Impact Organization (GIO) and also partner with colleagues across the enterprise in leading the legal support for our global impact work. The Chief Counsel will be part of McKesson's General Counsel Organization (GCO), reporting to the SVP, Associate General Counsel, Employment, Benefits and Executive Compensation Law & Counsel to the Global Impact Organization.

The Chief Counsel, Sustainability & ESG will provide legal review and guidance in setting ESG strategies, initiatives, priorities, metrics, and goals appropriately designed for McKesson; developing GIO and other ESG-related communications; assessing ESG-related risks; and establishing policies, disclosures, standards, and procedures with regards to ESG matters across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead legal advisor for the GIO, GCO, executive team, and board on ESG-related matters, helping guide stakeholders through legal considerations in the development of strategies, priorities, metrics, goals, policies, and procedures on ESG-related matters that are tailored to McKesson's businesses.
  • Provide legal support and guidance to other departments within the GIO and GCO, including but not limited to, impact, innovation & activation, strategy, compliance, and corporate social responsibility.
  • Review and provide legal advice on McKesson's ESG reporting and disclosures, including in the annual Impact Report, SEC filings, and other reports and publications, and on ESG-related communications with government agencies, customers, suppliers, business partners, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and provide legal advice on healthcare-related ESG initiatives.
  • Stay current on developments in ESG legal policies and compliance, including global laws and regulations, government investigations, reporting standards and frameworks, best practices.
  • Assist with ESG legal updates for the board, investors, and other key stakeholders and advise on creating and implementing responses to legal developments appropriately customized for McKesson.
  • Provide strategic legal guidance on how federal anti-kickback statutes and other fraud and abuse laws intersect with initiatives focused on social impact.
  • Draft, review and revise contracts and agreements that include specific clauses addressing ESG concerns, such as environmental compliance, social impact assessments, and ethical sourcing requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years as a practicing attorney, preferably with combined law firm and in-house experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the healthcare industry, with a strong understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution.
  • Admission to practice before a state bar(s), currently in good standing.

Critical Skills:

  • Proficiency in advising senior management, including executives, on strategies and legal risks.
  • Experience as both a strategic and pragmatic counselor and partner to the business in navigating complex and continually evolving business and legal landscapes.
  • Skilled in streamlined communications and clear counseling to business teams and stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a track record of developing strong working relationships across a broad client base and with other ESG professionals in a matrixed, enterprise environment.
  • Proven track record of advising executives on complex regulatory healthcare issues related to the development of innovative, value-based care programs that create shared value between businesses and the communities they serve.
  • Demonstrated success in developing strong relationships between legal and business teams that foster an environment of proactive legal support and innovative problem-solving.
  • Skilled at integrating data points from across the enterprise and disparate projects to provide strategic and cost-effective guidance that marries business objectives with legal requirements and equity-building strategies.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$179,600 - $299,300
