Position Overview:
The Assistant General Counsel, Labor and Employment, position will support Acrisures Human Resources functions, with responsibility to provide labor and employment counseling and transactional support. The position reports to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Labor and Employment. This role is intended for a hard-working, forward-thinking labor and employment attorney seeking to build an in-house career in a fast-paced, corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide overall legal and compliance support to the Human Resources function at the direction of the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Labor and Employment.
- Provide legal advice to internal clients, including senior management and HR professionals, on broad range of employment related matters including but not limited to, discrimination, harassment, benefits, performance, wage and hour laws, employee classification, employee benefits, employment agreements, reduction in force, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, WARN, USERRA, state-level laws and compliance, and employment-related policies.
- Manage dispute resolution and pre-litigation investigations, including assessing federal and state agency charges, complaints, and attorney demand letters; developing strategies to resolve them; engaging and supervising outside counsel as applicable; and providing clear, concise, and accurate guidance;
- Draft, review and negotiate HR-related contracts, including, but not limited to, employment agreements and separation agreements;
- Track and maintain employment matters in company system and keep timely records to support accurate and up-to-date reporting and metrics;
- Support business strategic initiatives and projects, including U.S. and global policy development; and
- Project-manage and partner with stakeholders to build long-term, sustainable processes and policies that support legal compliance and risk mitigation as the company scales.
Education/Experience:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited nationally recognized law school;
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction;
- 6+ years of relevant law firm and/or in-house experience required;
- Experience counseling multi-state employers, particularly California, preferred.
