Position Summary

The paralegal performs professional paralegal services for the Administrative Division within the State Public Defender, with a special focus on the centralization of private bar appointments as well as private bar complaints. Salary Information

Starting salary will be between $23.75 and $34.03 per hour, which is in pay schedule/range 07-04. Salary will depend up experience and qualifications, and will be based on rules that apply in the current compensation plan.

Permanent classified state employees who are eligible for consideration (transfer, voluntary demotion, or reinstatement) for a position assigned to the stated pay range or counter-part pay range, should complete the application process as described below by the stated deadline.

Final selected candidates may be eligible for moving expense reimbursement to relocate to the place of employment.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications (Required - Candidates must have experience and/or training relevant to these areas in order to be considered for this position):

  1. Preparing legal documents (e.g., drafting pleadings, briefs; gathering records; organizing data, etc.)

  2. Effective written, oral, and communication skills

  3. Working effectively with people from different backgrounds

  4. Working with computers (e.g., word processing, database entry, spreadsheets, etc.)

A well-qualified candidate will also have experience and/or training in the following areas:

  1. Paralegal experience (e.g., working in a law firm, possession of a paralegal degree, etc.)

  2. Knowledge of the criminal justice system
